Two new Ordinariate priests ordained by the Apostolic Nuncio

On Saturday 18th July at the church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory, Warwick Street, London W1, His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Mennini, the Apostolic Nuncio, ordained two new Ordinariate priests: Fr Paul Cracknell and Fr Stephen Lambert.  There are now 88 priests in the Ordinariate as well as four permanent deacons.  This prayer from the Rite of Ordination spoken by the Nuncio will be of interest to all former Anglicans: “Almighty Father, we give you thanks for the years of faithful ministry of your servants in the Church of England, whose fruitfulness for salvation has been derived from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church.  As your servants have been received into full communion and now seek to be ordained to the presbyterate in the Catholic Church, we beseech you to bring to fruition that for which we now pray.”

The music at the Mass was William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices sung by the choir of the church of Our Lady of the Assumption directed by Keith Brown.  The parish priest Fr Mark Elliott-Smith accompanied the final hymn (“O Praise ye the Lord”) and played the voluntary at the end of Mass.  The homily was preached by the Ordinary the Very Revd Mgr Keith Newton.
